Not only does the 13-year-old have a hilarious small role in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, in theaters today, but she earned great buzz for her equally small, but funny role in 500 Days of Summer and she also has two more movies on the horizon, including a vampire drama called ‘Let Me In.’

We talked to Chloe and she confessed she didn’t read the Wimpy Kid series before filming the movie.

“No they weren’t in my curriculum in school,” she says. “After I did the film, I read them and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, these are so amazing!” It’s funny because I was like this twelve year old reading these, you know, middle school sixth grade books.”

Okay, so Chloe’s reading list is a bit more …sophisticated. “At that time, I was reading ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and those types of books.” But she also told us that she hasn’t read the Twilight books, even though she plays a vampire in the upcoming ‘Let Me In.’ Turns out, the vamps in her movie are nothing like the Cullens.

“Let Me In is a really amazing darker side of a vampire,” she tells us. “It really expresses how a vampire is a not a good thing to have on you. It’s not something that’s cool, fun, and you have fangs and you look awesome. It’s really darker and more emotional and it shows how it is a burden on my character Abby.”

At only 13 years old, Chloë Grace Moretz is already shaping up to become the next great geek icon. Sure, you’ve seen her do the occasional kid’s television show, but in between the girl has managed to pick up roles in Wicked Little Things, The Amityville Horror, Room 6 and The Eye. Now, in 2010, she’s poised to take the geek world by storm with roles in the comic adaptation Kick Ass, as well as Let Me In, Matt Reeves’ remake of Let the Right One In. Needless to say, this ain’t your ordinary 13-year old, and while some have called her the anti-Dakota Fanning, I wouldn’t label her as anything other than one actress you should really keep your eye on.

While at SXSW, Cinematical managed to grab only a couple minutes with the much sought-after actress, but only because we just happened to be sitting right next to her between events. We’ll bring you more from Chloë prior to the release of Kick-Ass, and look for a much longer interview with her later in 2010 as we approach the release of Let Me In this October.

Cinematical: Let’s face facts: in this film, you kill more people than I think I’ve ever seen a person your age kill on the big screen before. Not only are you a weapons master, but you throw in flips and jumps, and you’re running up walls. How much of this stuff did you really do yourself?

Chloë Grace Moretz: Almost all of it was me, except for the gigantic flips and running up the wall wasn’t me. But all of it was me except for that, and it was insanely hard because in the middle of thinking about choreography — you know, left, right, left, right — you’re aware that one little mistake and you’re on the ground.

Cinematical: Why choose this role? I’m pretty positive there aren’t hundreds of parts out there calling for violent, foul-mouthed 12-year-olds — so how did this all come about?

Chloë Grace Moretz: Well, about a month before I got the script, Wanted came out. The signs were everywhere with Angelina Jolie like that [she makes like she's pointing a gun]; it was everywhere, it was crazy. I love her because she’s so, like, women empowerment, and so I told my mom that I really wanted an Angelina Jolie, Wanted, take charge-type character. I wanted to be the leading women who’s telling the men what to do [laughs]… and then the script for Kick-Ass came up. I usually don’t read them because then I get emotionally attached to it and if I don’t get it I get sad, but I read it and I knew that I had to be Hit Girl. So they called me, I met with Matthew Vaughn, and …

Cinematical: … the rest is history.

Chloë Grace Moretz: Exactly!

Cinematical: One thing a lot of people have already talked about is just how nasty the language is. Did you have a problem with any of the nasty words you have to say in the film, especially as someone who’s so young?

Chloë Grace Moretz: It’s character. It’s not me. If I did half the stuff that’s in the film, I’d be grounded for the rest of my life. I come from a very religious family; we go to church every single Sunday. Even when we’re out of town we still go to church. I would never in a million years say that kind of stuff or do the kind of stuff that you see in the movie. Trust me, I wouldn’t harm a fly.

Cinematical: Tell me what you can about the sequel. Will there be one? Are you signed on?

Chloë Grace Moretz: I can’t really say right now. If there is a sequel, I’m in it. All I know is that I really want a purple ducati. If there’s a sequel, get me a purple ducati.

Previously called The Texas Killing Fields, the film focuses on a local homicide detective who teams up with a cop from New York City to investigate a series of unsolved murders in the Texas bayou.

The movie, now in pre-production, will be filmed in Louisiana and is set for a 2011 release.

Here is the plot summary of the book, according to Common Sense Media:

When Hugo’s father, a clockmaker, is killed in a fire, he’s taken in by his uncle. They live together in a hidden room inside the walls of the Paris train station, where it’s his job to maintain the station clocks — until one night he disappears. Now Hugo is alone, still living inside the station walls, stealing to survive, and still maintaining the clocks so no one will know his uncle is gone.

Hugo also works on an automaton, a mechanical man, that his father was trying to restore. He steals parts from a toyshop in the station. When he is caught, the mean store owner takes away his father’s notebook and threatens him with arrest. But the old man’s hidden past and Hugo’s are intertwined, and the secret message hidden in the automaton’s workings is only the beginning. Includes Acknowledgments, Credits, and References.

Kick-Ass will be premiering at SXSW tonight, officially kicking off the festival.
