In the past we've got a lot examples for good and also for bad remakes.
But I think we should first watch the remake before we rate it. Then we can say "it's good" or "it's not so good".

I don't know if we need another "Carrie" version. But Chloë wants to play this role and make this movie and I'm anxious for her performance and what she put in this role. And I know she would be terrific in this role. :)

By the way: In Germany Let me in was only showed in some separated theaters and just a year after the US/ UK Release.
But it got very good critiques - especially Chloë's performance as Abby. :)

Yeah, I mean take "The Thing" as an example, the original one is already crap. And what do they have to do? Make a remake of the original film to piss us off even more! Anyways, I'm gonna watch Carrie only because Chloe is in it... that is if they're even gonna play the movie in the theaters here in Hong Kong of course.

The redundancy of remakes is just mind-blowing!

Well whatever floats your boat. But please tell me : why don't you count scarface as a remake? It's a remake by the very definition.

The wiki page doesn't mention anything about Scarface being a remake, but more like a dedication to the one in 1932. Honestly, I think it wouldn't be a remake, the gangs (Cubans, columbians...) , storyline are very different than the on in 1932.

It's a remake so it does change some things here and there, the location too (they even planned to shoot it in Chicago like the first one but they ended up changing that because of budget constraints, great reason.) and it being cocaine instead of illegal alcohol trading. But it's still very much a remake, not scene by scene like let me in was at times but a remake like Carrie sounds like it will be.

Mordensen wrote:Because I don't. I like many movies from that era, however, the Howard Hawks version is just silly and I don't even consider it a movie. It's like watching a live action cartoon. Pacino is Scarface.

Mordensen wrote:That's one of the reasons why the 1932 version isn't even a movie to me. It's way too campy, cartoonish, and what DePalma did with "Scarface" of 1983 was give it a more realistic, brutal, honest approach and feel. That's the primary reason why I count it as the only "Scarface."

So... You don't consider it a remake because it was better than the original? Not sure how that makes sense.

Wash, rinse, repeat. Sorry but I see right through their angle and I'm not buying into it. It's a joke whose punchline got lost in the shuffle.

I don't know why you believe that, movie making goes beyond simply the story. You can have a good story and a bad movie (John Carter anyone?). Or a bad story and a good movie (Avatar?). Movies aren't all about the storyline. There can't be artistic innovation in cinematography? In soundtracks? Production values, editing? Actors/actresses bringing a breath taking performance? I think a lot can happen there. Some remakes/reboots actually stray from their source content quite a bit. This is why some remakes can surpass their originals. But I guess it depends on your perspective. You seem set on hating remakes which you're free to do so. :)

Hey sharky, let's get something straight right now so as to avoid any further misunderstandings: I wholeheartedly oppose all remakes due to what I have already posted, and I happily laugh them all off and then let them disappear into indifference. They will never outshine the originals, they are inferior to the originals, and you and others who think this trend is such a bang-up job of a concept is a-okay are in the minority seeing as millions have come to loathe and despise remakes, and that is why they're becoming less successful at the box office. And read closer next time: I stated that I have no hate for remakes, only laughter and indifference - and the wit and will to mock and satirize them on occasion, especially if/when they're brought up. That word, hater, it's so outmoded and so you might as well stick it in a time capsule being it doesn't apply to myself nor anyone else who sees through the bollocks of the film industry. Nice try though. ;)

You might want to cool it with the condescending attitude tbh. At least try not to state your opinions as objective facts. You don't convince anyone that way. You have the wit and will to satirize them? Oh, gosh.

Hollywood appeals to the masses. When remakes stop being a profitable avenue for Hollywood then they will stop making them, it's really as easy as that. I said that in my very first reply to you :geek: . So I think we all get the gist of your argument, you have an extreme negative perception of remakes (sorry, clearly not a hatred), we can leave it at that instead of engaging in a circular argument.

Do you by any chance know what a movie is? Whatever you consider the original isn't relevant, it's a movie.

Mordensen wrote:@sharky: You might want to consider cooling it with trying to dictate to people how they should talk - or in this case, post. This is the kind of b/s I encountered on one of the two sites, people trying to play that card and it didn't go over well. Yeah, satire; ever hear of it? It's fun to have a go at the expense of fatcat-run Hollyweird and all its mindless eyesores. And yeah, I do have a very hardline stance against remakes - and I'm one among millions as I said. Are you going to say that millions of people who have grown tired of the schtick who wrote it off long ago are also condescending? Good luck with that.

You've encountered this reaction on other forums? Yes, it must be a problem with everyone else you have debated this issue with instead of yourself. :?

Ugh. Well it's getting clear why you were getting banned from everywhere, you can say it's a problem with online anonymity and I would agree, but probably not the way you are wanting me to. You do sound condescending in most of your posts and no one appreciates that, if someone talked to me like that in person I would certainly not bother having any discussions with them. Just calm down and stop posting with the victimized attitude of always getting banned because everyone else are wrong.

I already agreed to disagree a long time ago, no reason to keep telling me to do that and tell me it's fine, I know it is, it's common sense and there's no reason to patronize me.

Maybe the discussions about remakes with friends ends quickly because they find your opinions are already set in stone and can't bother? I don't know and honestly don't care about your circle of friends. No one had been rude to you before you started throwing off snarly comments left and right. I'm younger than you but I am certainly not a teenager, but this is a internet forum and users ages don't matter, we got lots of very young users on here and they aren't rude. Good on you for being a very mature adult who discuss important things with your friends though. :?

In a fewer post somebody wrote that Carrie would be filmed in/ near Toronto - is it right ?

To answer the question when they start filming I think we only have to listen to Chloë.
She would give us a Tweet when she's going to Toronto so we could assume that she would be there for starting filming the movie. :)
