To the idiots saying "Carrie" will be a remake...

Postby kylio27 » Sun May 06, 2012 8:14 pm

I think it's been said that it will be a RE-ADAPTATION of the novel, not a remake of the original film. Haven't you guys ever heard of The Thing -- John Carpenter's classic film from 1982? It is a brilliant horror film, and considered one of the greatest of all-time. It isn't a remake of the original "The Thing from Another World" from 1951, it is actually a much more honest adaptation of the short-story "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell Jr.

Not a "remake", get it right.

Isn't that what a remake is? Essentially a re-adaption of the novel?

I'm currently reading 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and in the novel he gets a prison sentence. In the movie, however, he gets away with only a fine and no prison sentence. If someone else was to remake the movie of it, they might choose him to serve his prison sentence.

So, in terms of a remake - it is. To back up my point, this is the dictionary definition of a remake: Make (something) again or differently.

Who says it cannot be out-done? It differs from the novel significantly, and if this one is attempting to be a more honest adaptation, I have no problems.

Mordensen wrote:Oh, and while Hit-Girl was indeed awesome, those saying that character is the most badass of all comic characters...well, the Hulk would have something to offer to refute that claim. Even Black Widow would toss her about like a rag doll (among many others). Don't get me wrong; you know I'm a fan of Chloe...I just think holding her up so high is a bit ridiculous.

What does any of this have to do with anything?

Whatever, I'll humour you. Hit-Girl is definitely not the best comic-character ever, but she's certainly more interesting than Black Widow...especially Scarlett Johansson's rather wooden, and empty interpretation.

I think what kylio27 is trying to say is that this new movie will be based on the original novel by Stephen King and not the 1970's movie, that is, the only relation between the movies is the source material. Weather we should call it a "remake" or not is not really important, is it?

I don't think most people really distinguish between the two, remake vs reapdaption, and it doesn't also really matter to me. Carrie, from 1976, has proven itself - and hopefully the new Carrie with Chloë will prove itself, too.

But for most people, once another movie has been made - it will always be considered as "the original material" - some of these people might not even know, that the movies are based on a book by Stephen King.

Myself, I don't really look back - especially not to 1976. Its too long ago. All I hope for is a solid and good protrayal of Carrie White by Chloë Moretz - and a great movie, of course.

Also, dont feed the forum troll.

@kylio27: One question, did you created this thread just because you wanted to enrage Mordensen? Because he is the only person here who really, really hates remake (especially the Carrie one) And yeah, getting along with him needs a little bit of patient. Some fact about him, asyou can see, he's from Norway. What else? Hmm... He's an old man who's more than thirty years old. He is a master of martial arts, but he doesn't think Mixed Martial Arts is a kind of martial arts. And he didnt get along with Oskar, LoveHurts, some other people, and me. He's also the first person here who add fellow user as "foe", but I'm not sure if he still does that. He said he has a very interesting life, and he accidentally killed someone (that what he said). But don't worry, he said he's actually a very nice guy, which I hope is true.

And hello, Mordensen, looks like you're back posting again. I wonder why you didn't post much these days. Ok, let do some critical thinking then.

First, Hit-Girl. The reason that people loves her or any other superheroes aren't because of their power, if it is based on powers then Superman will be the most awesome hero ever. It is based on their character and their personality. You love Hulk, and so do I. Yes, the Hulk is awesome when he's smashing, sure. But what makes Hulk even more interesting is the forever struggle between Bruce Banner and Hulk. When everything is fine, Banner is kind scientist, but when he's angry, he smashes. If there's no Banner, Hulk is just a monster and he'll be much less interesting. Back to Hit-Girl then, she can kick ass, but so does almost every other superhero. But she's a 12 year old girl, which is uncommon even for Hollywood. Not to mention she killed people without mercy, violently and with blood and severed arms, unlike other superheroes. Also, no other superheroes have an dirtier mouth than her (except for a Norwegian martial artists, or at least he used to be dirtier), which is really appropriate for a 12 year old girl.

Second (huff, I'm getting tired), Chloë. Fact: "Best" does not equal to "favorite". Sure, there's a lot of actress better her. But tell me, why are you a fan of her? Why not the others who are better than her? What's wrong about her photo? What's wrong about an innocent child wearing short?

We will skip third, which topic is about THE topic, which is about remakes. But I'm getting lazy and I don't believe anything will persuade you to give up your hate about remakes.

Last thing, Mordensen. Fans are SUPPOSED to have little critical thinking, especially about the thing or people they admired crazly. Still, everything does have a limit, but I think you have been a little TOO critical.

PS Oskar, calm down, if you think he's a troll, just ignore him. Mordensen, don't make fun of people like that, it's not nice, even on Internet.
PPS Actually Mordensen, I really missed you, seriously. I'm not kidding. Because I just love posting with you, you just made me post my longest post ever! :D Forgive my English though.
A friend and a fan.
