There's a program that you can download to bypass region lock. Then as long as you watch on a computer monitor you shouldn't have much problem with the NTSC to PAL either. I won't post name since I mean I don't know if it's legal or not but I don't think it's piracy since you're still paying for it.

Anyway I think someone already mentioned it but you can change your computer's region lock for a dvd drive 5 times in its lifetime (and I think everytime you uninstall it and reinstall it if it's a removable dvd reader it resets the 5 times)
so I guess you could always do that if you really want, or you should do what I always thought my plan would be if I had to leave USA. buy region 1 dvd player so you can still import movies and see them. Not as big of a deal with blu rays though since those aren't really region locked anymore.

I repeat it from my earlier post:

The most European DVD Player (Region 2) can play American DVD's (Region 1). You just have to change the code on the Player. If you don't know how it works with your player, take a look at google. Or you look at the official page from the producer of the player - some of them publish it on their sites. There's no illegal in it, it's just a function on your player which is not told in the guidance.
I bought some American DVD's (cause they weren't release in Europe like Hick) and I never had any problems with watching them (and I love the warnings of the FBI at the beginning  ).
But be careful: It doesn't work with American Region 1 BlueRays on European Region 2 BlueRay Players. :!:

My american DVD have a limit of 5 region changes per install. I gotta reformat or delete registry to be able change it more times. So If I change to European and back, that's 2 changes.

Mmh yes, it works differently with all the different types of dvd players, but there's ordinary a way to change it. At my one there's no limit.
What I forgot to write: After watching a region 1 dvd (in Europe) you have to change back to region 2 to watch European dvds - it doesn't work automatically.

Yeah, changing the region of the drive on your PC isn't the best idea, because I know, with mine at least, once it's changed 5 times, that's it, the only way I can reset it is to reformat.

It's so easy to just get a region free DVD player these days. I have a couple of cheap region free DVD players, but the one I use mainly is my Toshiba HDDVD player, obsolete for HDDVD now of course, but it can play all region DVDs without having to switch back and forth, so it's useful in that regard.

Region free Blu-Ray players are starting to appear now too, I have one and whilst it works OK, it's loud as hell and you have to switch region manually each time, so I don't use it all that much. I saw someone mention above that Blu-Rays aren't as much of a problem with region lock, that's sort of true, but a large number of them are locked, so it's best to check before buying just in case. For instance, the US BRs of 'Let Me In' & 'Kick-Ass' are locked, Hugo wasn't though.

Oh, that sounds very great, I didn't know this before. Thank you for this information.
I intended to buy some American BlueRays in the past - for example The 3D Version of "Hugo Cabret" because it isn't release in Europe, but I didn't do it because I had fear I couldn't watch it.

Btw: Hugo will be released in Germany on BlueRay and DVD in August, but not the 3D Version. :|

Best bet is to fiddle with registry. Google Registry edit to change drive region. There's a way around the lock. It just takes some registry editing where you baically delete the times you've changed it or modify something. Which is the same thing that happens when you reformat. Can't be too hard unless you are afraid of computers in that case there is software online that lies to your video player that it's in the right region, but again I'm not sure if that is technically legal or not.

Honestly I didn't think it was that bad. I can't believe it has 0% on Rotten Tomatoes! That's harsh. I expected something unwatchable, but I can honestly say I enjoyed some aspects of the movie. I thought Chloe's and Eddie's performances made the movie. Chloe made her character very likable and it was easy to invest yourself in her well being. And of course Eddie did a wonderful job at portraying someone who is unstable and dangerous, even when he was supposedly acting 'normally', he was still broadcasting a red flag to the audience.

My largest gripe with Hick was the extremely slow pacing with too little pay off (they needed one or two more climatic scenes in the movie IMO) and the rushed, sloppy ending. The whole movie they're building you up to Eddie doing something to Luli, and by the time it happens, there's about 5 more minutes of screen time and it's all over. :geek:

I also didn't think Glenda and Eddie's whole plot was shown very well. It was kind of shoddily explained. They should have just left that out, keep the focus on Luli and Eddie.

OK I finally saw it .
what we have - it's pretty depressive and boring road movie,Chloe is great as always, other actors is good too, they act,but story is boring.
and what about teen exploitation, about which critics spoke.Did they even watch "Taxi driver" (1976)and "Pretty baby"(1978)? Hick is childish in comparision.

looks like usual Wim Wenders style

not so bad, btw., to be honest . like 3 from 5

But I can't imagine Hick can be as great as "Taxi Driver" or as good as "Pretty Baby".
