'Carrie' - Official Discussion Thread

Take it for what it's worth, but New York Magazine's Vulture site is claiming the following:

Warm up the bucket of pig blood — we’re getting closer to finding us a Carrie! A gaggle of actresses have been reading for the lead role in Kimberly Peirce’s adaptation of Stephen King's book (which will reportedly hew closer to the source than Brian DePalma's 1976 horror classic), and now we're told the field has narrowed to two main contenders: the 15-year-old Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass) and the 24-year-old Haley Bennett, who is starring with Ryan Gosling in Terrence Malick's next project, Lawless.

These two sit at the top of a list of candidates that has included such young up-and-comers as Dakota Fanning (all growed up and, lately, a Volturi in Twilight), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Bella Heathcote (In Time), and Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror), who have all read for Peirce. We also hear that earlier this week, The Descendants' Shailene Woodley passed on an offer from MGM to take the title role.

Yeah, I read that too.

As I wrote in another post - Chloë certainly has the skills and she is closer to the age of the role, but I do think that Haley has the better look/type for the character - if they weight that more than acting skills, that is.

The old Carrie was a great movie - but not sure how it will handle the time passed... But if it IS made and with Chloë as a lead, Im pretty sure its gonna be good and it could be a good movie to take a lead in (its a bigger remake than fx. Let me in).

Any leading roles Chloë can get (unless its some crazy movie) is fine by me!

I think she would be awesome in this role. I'd rather have the better actress, rather than worry about her appearance, they can change that in a heartbeat!

I havn't read the book, but I have seen the old, Carrie, movie with Sissy Spacek from 1976. I recall the movie as a pretty good one - but then again, I havn't seen it for many years, so I don't know if it holds time.

According to the text in OP, the old movie did not follow the book as closely as this new remake will, but a quick resume of the movie, as I recall it:

Spoiler!

Actually, the more I think about it the more I find Chloë to be better and the right one (vs. Haley) for this role. Its actually not that far from her Abby character (obviously just not being a vampire) - and Chloë is alot closer to the real age of Carrie.

I hope Chloë gets it.

I think they should leave CARRIE alone, it's been done well and I doubt they could do better. But what the hell, if Chloe gets it I'll watch it.

I think that Chloe would be very much suited to this role because it is similar to her role in Let Me In (as someone said). In Let Me In, Chloe essentially plays the role of a social outcast who keeps having to move. When you put that role into perspective with this role, it's quite similar.

Although, Chloe only does the characters that she feels for. She won't jut play a role for the money, she wants to be able to connect with the character. So it might come to it that they want Chloe for the movie, but she may not want to do it.

Either way, it sounds like a pretty good movie.

I disagree, if done right, it could be phenomenal! The story is still relevant with so many religious nuts and groups still around. And with as much bullying that goes on now days, I think a lot of young people will relate to Carrie!
