I've always been a big fan of What-If Scenarios. What if the South won the Civil War? What if we Invaded Japan instead of using the Atomic Bomb? What if JFK was never assassinated?

Well I have the most chilling What If scenario in History... WHAT IF Chloe Grace Moretz never played Hit Girl in Kick Ass?

In this alternate reality, another talented child actress - Jodelle Ferland - took the Role of Hit Girl. She is known for playing roles in R rated Horror movies, most notably 'Silent Hill'. Jodelle Ferland did decent job of portraying the character of Hit Girl. Already in the spotlight because of her role in Silent Hill, she becomes even more popular from Kick-Ass.

Meanwhile, another young Actress by the name of Chloe Moretz had just finished up the kids movie 'Jack and the Beanstalk' While she is very talented for her age, unfortunately is still relatively unknown to movie goers. The media attention of focused on big child stars like Elle Fanning and Annasophia Robb... and now Jodelle Ferland because of her controversial role as Hit Girl.

After Jack and the Beanstalk, Chloe Moretz goes on to play a role in 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' - another kids movie. That same year however, she gains some publicity after staring as Abby, the child vampire in 'Let Me In'
Despite her performance, she loses 'Best Horror Actress' to Anna Paquin at the 2011 Scream awards because she just didn't have enough fans to vote for her....

There is no question that Kick-Ass was her key to instant fame. She never even appeared on talk shows or mentioned in the media until just prior to the movie. Even now, most of her fans seem to be fans of Kick-Ass (If you notice all the people who want her to sign autographs, they are mostly pictures of Hit Girl)

For me personally, I'd have become a fan from the movie 'Let Me In' I liked the original, but I think Let Me In movie blew the original out of the water. Of course my favorite character in both movies was the Vampire Girl. So while some Hit-Girl fans may have seen Let Me In solely because Chloe was in it. I'd have seen it either way.
However, I can't say for sure if I would have actually been a fan of 'Chloe' or just a fan of the Vampire she played.

O.K... so seriously what do you think her career, popularity and fan base would be like if not for Kick-Ass? I'm sure some of you were fans of hers before Kick-Ass. Others may have become of fan of hers after Kick-Ass, but without having seen it. Would you guys even be posting on this board right now? Would this message board even be here?

EDIT : I just came back from traveling into this alternate reality. Very sad indeed. Chloe quit acting and is barely making a living as a hotel clerk.

Well ........ the truth is I think most of their fans were made thanks to the movie "Kick Ass". And much of the majority should have become a fan of film, and as you said, another part saw the movie just because she was acting in it. I just know that when I saw this movie, I realized that it is not any one child actress, and after watching "Let Me In" I became a fan and now I see the movies I missed. I see the movie and I think I liked it or not. So far, all the films I saw her acting, I can say that I really liked ^ ^

Chloe would have succeeded anyway, it may have not been so quickly though or with the same movies. The reason why she got casted in Kick-Ass was because she was the most talented and fit the role best. It wasn't luck really, but let's say the casting director or whoever discovered Chloe had an accident or simply never saw Chloe and she wasn't cast in Kick-Ass.

Chloe already had a career going and she would have probably grown up and done roles progressively, perhaps she would have appeared in the sequels of Diary of A wimpy kid and so on. Eventually she would have found another role to launch her career. For all we know she may have still been able to get cast into Hugo or perhaps she ended up being cast in like a hunger games sequel or something.

All in all, She is talented and would have made it anyway, but perhaps not this quickly and abruptly, perhaps it would have been like a lot of actresses who do not become maisntream until their late 30s. Some male actors don't become mainstream until their 40s. But that's all what ifs because Chloe was cast in Kick-Ass and the world is a great place

I'm not saying she wouldn't. It would have just happened over time rather then getting instant attention.
She'd have made a name for herself in Let Me In and Hugo. Without Kick-Ass, I think HIck would have been her breakthrough role because for one, she played the main character, second - the controversy of the role and three - she was excellent in it.

First thing we have to remember here is, that Chloë is really not that big a star YET, as she herself sometimes mentions in interviews or that we might believe cause we are her biggest fans.

Most of my friends do not know Chloë (they know Hit-Girl, yes - but not Chloë) and those that do only do so because I remind them of her so many times and drag them to see Hugo and Dark Shadows and force them to watch Let me in etc.

Chloë is getting bigger and bigger - but she is still far away from being as big a name as fx. Jennifer Lawrence. The easist way to know when a star is "big enough" is when they get many leading roles offers and when they start earning millions for each part instead of thousands or in Chloë's case properly hundreds of thousands (if we can trust those figures from Hugo).

That being said, I'm gonna tag along with SniperJF opinion here.

Chloë would most likely make it anyway (one can never know of course). Chloë is one of the most talented young actresses in her age group, and even if you start adding talents like Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Woods (both 10 years older) I would still rank Chloë far up in a top 5.

But as SniperJF says - it might just have taken her longer and without Kick-Ass maybe she wouldn't have gotten the Hugo and Dark Shadows deal - cause while her role in Let me in was one of the best performances (if not her best) - the movie didnt really reach that big of an audience.

Most talent will eventually be spotted - and along the way Chloë would have been spotted anyways and gotten her deals as we see now - and hopefully getting better and better deals as we will also start seing with her in the next few years.

@SniperJf and @Oskar, I totally agree with you, thank you for your points here.

In the past I saw a lot of "child actors" and I know that a lot of them couldn't make their way in that business and they got lots of problems (with drugs and alcool and so on) when they became adult.

And then I saw Chloë. There was no second ever I had called her a "child actress". The way she performs, she plays her roles, she acts, everything she shows to us in a movie - there was no kid before who can do this.
You're right about her celebrity and she's not so famous as we want her to be, but if she makes her way (and I'm sure she will) she could become one of the greatest actresses ever. In her age she is it (if you compare her with other same-aged actual actresses in the present or the younger past: for example Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, Dakota and Elle Fanning, Hailee Steinfeld, Saiorse Ronan, Jennifer Lawrence, Abigail Breslin, ...) They all are very good actresses - really and in my oppinion they all have the chance for a big future in the film business - some of them just realized it yet. But they haven't got this big talent of Chloë. I think it's nothing you could explain with words. You have it or you don't have it - and Chloë really has it.

No one could know now what had happened if she weren't in Kick-Ass (maybe she had could be in Hunger Games - who knows). But now everything is just the way it is and we all should support her in her future as her fans - whatever she would make. Chloë is going to get an Oscar one day - I'm sure.

Finally it praises her a lot that she's so down-to-earth. I think that's the reason why she really has a chance to become a very great star and celebrity one day.
But the most important thing is that she could realize all her dreams in her future - whatever it would be. I really wish it to her.

Whilst I too enjoy "What Ifs", I personally believe that your hypothetical situation may be flawed, let me pose this theory: What if the failure to make the role in "Kick Ass" and subsequent lack of publicity, would she have been as likely to be cast in "Let Me In", or "Hugo" or any of her other big titles? I mean, of course, she would still be able to audition, but if she had less publicity than she does in this reality, it is possible that she would have gotten less consideration from casting managers... What if this Jodelle Ferland ended up playing all the parts that Chloe has played since "Kick Ass"?

I know it might seem as if I'm completly changing the hypothetical situation, but it's just something that occured to me when I read the original 'what if'.....
