I think Matt Reeves is staying pretty close to the original Swedish version in that Abby is definately a girl and the twisted backstory in the book (haven't read it but Eli was a castrated boy I think) has been totally left out.

Based on seeing Cloverfield, I'm sure Matt Reeves can make Chloe really scary as a vampire. I'm guessing that a key part of the suspense will be constantly wondering if Chloe will attack her co-star because he doesn't realize she's a vampire and wants her to be his girl-friend.

The book is apparently really twisted, which is why I've been reluctant to try reading it. The story in the film is as much as I can handle.

"Twisted" is a good description. The novel has some extremely scenes in it - it is horror after all. Naturally, the novels tell a bit more about Eli and what her life is like, but it also has some other things that are pretty disturbing. When they went to make the movie, they focused on the love story between Oskar & Eli and ditched the most disturbing things from the novel. I think those disturbing things make the love story all the more beautiful when you find out the distance that both Oskar & Eli have to go to let the other in, but I wouldn't recommend that any but the most mature kids should read Let the Right One In.

Well... yes. When you look at still shots of Lina Leandersson, you could almost convince yourself that maybe she was a very cute boy. However when you actually watch her acting in the film; moving around and talking, her Eli was very feminine. But the film did show explicitly that El was once a boy.

Anyway, I don't think that anyone is going to look at either stills or film of Chloe and believe that she could be a very cute boy. Within a year after the Swedish film was shot, Lina grew up enough that she was never going to be mistaken for a very cute boy either.

But if Holli is correct and most users here are pre-teens, how many people here could actually have seen Let the Right One In?
