While Ryan Reynolds, star of the new The Amityville Horror remake, was for the most part clean-shaven at last nights big Hollywood premiere, his proud conspicuously bearded pop was there to give him props. So was his mom, Tammy (she, however, was whisker-free). Even Producer Andrew Form was sporting a full chin o hair. When I interviewed premiere guest Justin Jeepers Creepers Long, he confessed that hes not able to grow a very good one, and seemed wistful when commenting on James Brolins bountiful, burly beard from the 1979 original film version of The Amityville Horror.
All the stars were on hand for the big gala event. Eight year old Chloe Moretz, who plays the Lutzes daughter, told me that she is not allowed to see the R-rated movie, and seemed a little peeved about it. I guess you have to be nine years old, because her co-star and cinematic brother, Jimmy Bennett, was all jazzed up to see the film. He even strolled the red carpet dressed in a tee-shirt sporting all his favorite horror movie icons, and was toting doll-versions of Chucky and Jason. Fifteen year old Jesse James, who plays the eldest Lutz child, surprised me when he said that hes seen the original film and liked it but everyone, including myself, agreed that its dated and this 2005 version is a lot scarier.
After the screening, a party was held at The Hollywood Athletic Club, a huge, old building where someone had the (fun) foresight to set up a massive faux Amityville House (creepy eye-windows and all) by the dance floor. Music was loud, drinks were flowing, and food was plentiful. Ryan held court at a table in the far corner, while his costars Melissa George, Rachel Nichols, Jesse James, Jimmy Bennett, and Chloe Moretz worked the room. Horror hubs Justin Long, Anna Farris, and Loretta Devine were also there to enjoy the festivities.
When I asked Ryan what it is about him and dogs in the movies (think: the bulldog in Van Wilder, the vampiric Pom in Blade:Trinity, and now a moment in The Amityville Horror which I shant spoil for you ) he laughed and said, Thats the best question, ever! (Thanks Ryan, but my money is still on To be, or not to be?) He did reply further, but youll have to check back to see the video from the premiere to find out what he said.
